Why do Muslim Women Wear Burqa? Why Muslim women cover their heads? What’s the reason for wearing a burqa? Is it the Islamic dress code? The strong and nearly controversial debate as to why Muslim wear Burqa or a Niqab is not a new one. And it can be said that women are not entirely privileged of how they prefer to dress.
Let’s take the case of how a 16-year old was barred from her school for covering her face, in the North London – where the administrator claimed that wearing hijab/burqa goes against the school rules. After which a petition was signed with the label, “Education shouldn’t be compromised due to how a person chooses to dress, nor how anyone looks at that person”. But the peculiar reason as to why really Muslim women choose to wear it revolves around some historical aspects and current mindsets. Let’s have a look at them.

#4- It is Part of Being a Muslim
Some women say that they wear a burqa because it is part of being a Muslim. They say that it is an individual choice at the end of the day but nevertheless they feel that they can identify themselves as true Muslims. They believe it is also a symbolization of decency and uniqueness.
These women also believe that from the historical Islamic point of view – not wearing a burqa or hijab does not make you a bad person or a bad Muslim.

#3- It is a Command of Allah
On the other hand, some women wear it merely for religious reasons. An Islamic fashion blogger on Instagram says, “I fear and love God, and He has said that women must cover their hair, so I follow what He tells me, simple as that. I know this might sound a little weird, but I don’t really think of symbolism and stuff, I follow it because God says it is the right and sensible thing to do and it is”.
#2- It is a Religious Fashion Statement
Some Muslim women claim that they personally feel very proud and comforting wearing a burqa. They believe it is quite liberating to wear something that is their very own choice without anybody’s imposition.
They say that they have different varieties and fashion trends of burqas that they are fond of wearing in different colors. Many women say that it is quite religious as well as fashionable.

#1- It is a Promoter of Feminism
Some women wear it to promote feminism and their strong individuality. They believe that in many societal trends, women are forced into covering their heads and it is simply wrong no matter what country or how religious. If a woman wears a burqa of her own choice and preference, then this indicates a strong individuality and right of women to live their lives wholly.
A Muslim Instagram user said, “I control if I want to use hijab pins, rhinestones, lace, or brooches. When I will wear it, how I will tie it. When I choose to take it off. It is my right”. These points combined promote feminism among women.
